New U.S. National Security Tariffs Affecting Canadian Wood Products
On September 29, 2025, President Trump proclaimed new national security tariffs on Canadian wood products under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act, effective October 14, 2025. The duties are 10% on softwood timber and lumber, and 25% on upholstered wood furniture and kitchen cabinets. Future rate increases are also scheduled.
